Esmée Denters new single with Justin Timberlake, "Love Dealer" is hitting up the charts. In this interview, this Dutch beauty talks about her inspiration, how a broken friendship helped her sing, and of course, her beauty secrets!
What is your beauty regimen?
Esmée: Right now I'm using a really good foundation by Clinique called Even Better. I have really difficult skin because its oily and sky. It's hard to find a foundation that works with that. I've been using MAC Studio Moisture Fix spf moisturizer. For my hair, I like to go really natural. The less product, the better. I use product by Umberto Giannini.
What is your fitness regimen?
Esmée: I try to run or walk 3 times a week for 6 miles. I used to hate running because I couldn't do it, but I worked up to it. My iPod gets me through that. You have to push through.
What is your inspiration for your writing?
Esmée: I love writing because its like venting for me. Whatever happens in my life or whatever I'm going through, I write it down and I write songs about it. Sometimes it could be watching TV or something my friends say that inspires me. Everyday, writing down potential titles. It's always on my mind.
Have you written a song that was so personal it was almost hard to write?
Esmée: There's a song on my album called "Memories turn to dust", and it's about a friendship. It seems like you feel like you have a friendship but to them you almost never exist anymore. All of the memories you've experiences with each other..it seems like they never think about that anymore and you're the one that thinks about it. That's what that song is about.
At what age did you know that being an artist is what you wanted to do?
Esmée: The first moment I opened my mouth I was singing. I was singing around the house. My dad is such a music freak. He would play songs like Stevie Wonder, Jackson 5 and the Beatles, so I always loved music. We used to do these little plays in school. I knew really early on. I think it was when the Spice Girls came on that I really wanted to be a pop artist. *laughs*
Who are your favorite artists right now?
Esmée: I really like Drake. He's one of my favorites right now. "Gotta Find Your Love" is a really beautiful song. Beyonce is always an inspiration, she's incredible. I like Rihanna's new song "Te Amo", and B.o.B as well. Also, "Dynamite" by Taio Cruz deserves to be #1 on the charts.
Who would you love to collaborate with in the future?
Esmée: I think Drake would be fun actually. He's a rapper and I'm a singer. It would be a cool combination.
You're having a very fast rise to fame. Have you had any life-changing experiences as of yet?
Esmée: When I was uploading my videos on Youtube, I never expected anything to come of it. It was life-changing to get signed to Justin [Timberlake] 's label and traveling around the world. I'm getting to do what I've always wanted to, so I'm a very lucky girl.
What do you do in your free time?
Esmée: I love to go into stores to buy products. I get mesmerized by the perfume aisle. *laughs* I love to go shopping and to the movies with my girlfriends. No weird hobbies. *laughs*
Do you have a message to your fans?
Esmée: Thank you everyone for following me. I talk to my fans on Twitter. It's nice to have a person relationship. I started out on Youtube an you've been able to see me grow. You are the ones that believed in me enough to get a record deal and help me do the things I'm doing now. You're very important to me. Tweet me! Don't be afraid!
